The way I talk

THE WAY I TALK

The spot I want to

make a way to

lies across the shallows.

I start by stepping

on a stone

and from it

to a next one.

My eyes select the stones

before my feet:

from stone to

next stone.

And finally I’m there.

I rest

and look about

and see—

the spot I meant to reach is

down the bank,

somewhere else.
