Bird cries

Bird cries

splatter a gaudy design

on the morning.

They and the husky exhalation

of an inexhaustible heater —

They and the growl

that swells and falls

from motors on the highway —

They and the punch

I drank last night —

concoct a mix

of bones and sticks

that fill the world

as far as I can see.
